It was 1966, P.S.219 had just opened their new no wall classroom school, the “Dome building”. 1st grade was about to begin and in walks David, with his fair hair and a big smile. His attitude was 12 feet tall and he walked like he owned the world at 6 years old.

The last time I saw David was at last year’s 136th street soft ball game. David greeted me with the same smile and 12 foot tall attitude. David adapted to the world around him, but it never changed him.

David has been my friend for 50 years, and that is how I think of him.
