Notes: Dr. Emanuel Martin Cohen, age 97, of West Islip died peacefully Thursday morning, October 3, 2019. Emanuel was born July 6, 1922 in Far Rockaway New York. He was the son of the late Joseph Cohen and Hannah (Jacobs) Cohen. Emanuel was a life long New York resident growing up in Forest Hills and Central Park West. He graduated Townsend Harris High School in 1937 at age 14 and then attended Cheshire Academy for 1 year before attending the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1942. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy, attended Officers Candidate School and was an original crewmember of the USS Intrepid, serving as a communications officer. After discharge from the Navy he attended NYU College of Dentistry, class of 1950. He set up his practice in North Babylon and worked as a general practice dentist for over 50 years, treating generations of patients. Outside work, Emanuel enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Emanuel was preceded in death by Sharon, his wife of 31 years and is survived by his brother Jules, his 3 sons: Jason (Jill); Austin (Suzanne); and Andrew (Karey); and 9 grandchildren.
