Though Arthur is gone from this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who mourn him.
In 1991, I was just in the 8th grade and suffered from something called bronchitis which led me right to a doctor’s office on Commack road called Commack Healthline. I was a nervous wreck going to a new doctor but as soon as I met dr. Friedman it was trust at first sight! He reminded me of my favorite actor John Ritter who played jack tripper. Dr. Friedman was not older than 27 at the time. He was humble and caring. He saw me grow up into an adult and always was supportive and made all of my worries go away instantly by giving me a hug and just saying “You’re fine.” It really is very, very hard to believe I not only lost my doctor but I lost a part of me. I feel lost knowing he is not here. He was always a phone call away. And when you think about it, he died as a hero. He was my hero. My health hero who gave us all hope. He was an absolute expert in his medical field. He will be missed very much by so many! RIP Dr. Friedman
Our hearts are shattered. Not only was Arthur a terrific doctor but he was a wonderful friend. We will miss him terribly. My dad was his first patient when he opened Healthline. Our condolences and love to his family

I’ve lost a truly dear friend, Artie, of 43 years. We connected from the very first time we met, as counselors at Tyler Hill Camp, located in Pa in 1977.Luckily, back home, we lived only 15 minutes from one another and were able to see one another often. . We had many great (and sometimes quite crazy) times) during those early years of our friendship and, with our many heart to heart conversations along the way, became in many respects, like close brothers. We would always says our goodbyes by stating, “I love you brother.” Family, friends and patients will miss him so very much because he was such a good soul. My deepest condolences to his family and love ones. I’ll miss you, Artie. May you rest in peace and may your soul be bound in the bond of life.Love you brother.
Dr Friedman was truly a man of great character. He always showed such compassion and tremendous patience toward my entire family. Anytime I needed medical care I felt like I was visiting a friend. Such a personable and caring human being . He will surely be missed but I will remember him fondly for the rest of my days!
I knew Dr. Friedman for over 35 years. I remember seeing him in Island Medical when I was about 9 years old. When he opened Healthline in the original location, we followed him there and he was our family doctor. My parents and all of our family loved Dr. Friedman. He was a wonderful man and we will miss him very much. May he RIP he was a gem of a human being.
Dr Friedman was a wonderful man, I’ve been seeing him for at least 20 years, he’s the only dr I’ve ever been happy to see, he made me feel comfortable each and every time I saw him, we would talk about our lives, aches and pains, and what worked and what didn’t! I truly felt I could talk to him on so many levels. We never hung out, gone to dinner or anything like that but I considered him my friend and I will miss him very much!
My heart goes out to his family, and also Chris and Wendy.
May he Rest In Peace
Me and my family are so sad that our belvoed Dr. Friedman passed away. We have been going for 20 years. Dr. Friedman was not only our doctor but we considered him our friend and the caring was obviously mutual. May he rest in peace in God’s loving arms. We love and will miss you terribly. Our condolences to family and staff.
We are so sorry for the loss of our beloved Dr. Arthur Friedman. He was a terrific doctor and a dear friend. Our thoughts are with his family and Wendy and Chris at this difficult time.
I first met Dr. Friedman when he was the Corps doctor for Commack Ambulance and was located in the strip mall on Commack Rd before opening his practice at the larger current building. He diagnosed me in two minutes with seasonal asthma and within a couple of weeks I was fine. Afterwards he saw me immediately after I appeared to have Bell’s Palsey and he diagnosed it right there and got me over to a neurologist in Huntington in one hour ! He cared about being a doctor, he cared about all of his patients and he was a good man. He will be missed and we are saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts go out to the family. The world has lost a very special person.
Dr. Friedman Will be so greatly missed. He was a wonderful man with a kind Heart and cared for his Patients in a way that is hard to find. Our family is deeply saddened and will always remember him in our hearts. RIP Dr Friedman Condolences to his family and loved ones
I received a text from a friend of mine telling me of Dr. Friedman’s passing. I was shocked, couldn’t believe it & had a good cry. Not only was he my Doctor for over 30 years, but he was also a person that you felt was part of your family. I remember sharing moments talking about our children, him consoling me when I lost both my parents. I could go on and on but the one thing I am sure of he was one of a kind! He will be extremely missed. My condolences to his children, family Wendy & Chris. Rest in Peace.
My husband and I are so deeply saddened by Dr. Friedman’s passing. Our family has been with him since he started at Island Medical until present. He was such a caring, wonderful person who will be sorely missed by so many. He was a true blessing in our lives. Our most heartfelt condolences are with his family and loving staff. Rest In Peace.
Dr Friedman was my doctor and my daughters family doctor. He was my security blanket, no matter what happened he would fix it. I always knew he was there for me. I have such a sadness losing such a great doctor and good friend. RIP Dr Friedman, will miss you.
Dr. Friedman was a man of great passion and dedication. He was more then just my Doctor, but a friend and confidant. My family and I were his patients since 1987, and no matter what the issue he always was there with a smile and reassurance. I vividly recall an emergency situation many years ago with my younger son at a local hospital, and with a quick phone call, Arthur put my mind at ease. He will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest with the angels now. Our deepest sympathy to his family.
So tragic. A caring individual with a great heart is just a few of the ways you could speak about Arthur. Such a great loss to so many people. My sympathies go to the family and friends. Still hard to believe. Rest In Peace Arthur …
Ive been a patient of Dr. Friedman’s for over 25 years, and I was shocked and saddened to learn of his death. He was one of the kindest, most compassionate doctors that I have ever known. He never made me feel rushed…he took his time and always diagnosed me perfectly. He will be sorely missed.
My prayers are with his family and loved ones.
I first met d. Friedman, 20 yrs ago!!!we became fastfast friends. My family and I are devastated, to hear if his passing . He will truly be missed. I will pray that dr. Friedman be at peace!!!!!
My mom first brought me to Dr. Friedman almost 25 years ago when he first opened his own practice. Over the years, he was the only doctor that I had ever met who had endless compassion, gentle beside manner, and genuine concern for all he knew. I moved 45 minutes away, but could not bring myself to see any other physician. He was a great comfort to me upon my mom’s passing one year ago today. I am heartbroken by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Dr. Friedman. You will be missed.
He will be in our hearts forever.
We lost one of the most caring sympathetic physicians I have ever known. Not only was he the first internal medicine doctor I called my own but he was a mentor and family friend. He knew that if he were to catch this life altering disease he may not survive. That did not stop him. He worked until he could work no more. He fought until he could not fight anymore. He did it all for us.
From the mouth of Dr.Arthur Friedman who knew how to just pull the best out of you and teach you to not give up, “Use your medicine Kel” he would say to me with any question I proposed. “Ok, now what” he would continue as I thought it out. He taught me how to quite frankly figure it out with the information you had and what you knew. I will be forever grateful to have known you since the day I was born, to call you “my doctor”, train in your footsteps. You will forever be missed and never forgotten Dr.Friedman.💔 #heathlineofcommack #smithtown
Dr. Friedman you were our Dr.and our friend! After grooming Shayna on many Sunday mornings, you me and Bob had many hours of wonderful conversations together. You will never be forgotten and you deserve the best as you RIP along with your loved ones. Til we meet again you will be deeply missed by all!
I just heard this news and I am simply blown away. I too knew Arthur for decades. I met him as a young sales rep for Bay Medical Supply company is he he came in on a covert mission as he was taking the plunge of going out on his own. We spend countless hours and days designing and setting up Healthline of Commack and he became part of the fabric of the community instantly. We also became instant friends sharing cold beers and commiserating over how crappy the Knicks were on any given day, all while telling me to watch my cholesterol! He as so excited about the coming chapter of his life and a lost spring in his step was regained. He was my doctor, my health advocate and my friend and I will truly miss him.
My deepest sympathies go out to Nikki and Eric. Your dad loved you without boundaries.
Good bye old friend…
Don’t want to say was. Dr. Friedman is and always will be one of the best people and doctors I could ever have hoped to be part of my life. Such a nice understanding and good willed man. Always looked out for me and will always be in mind and heart as someone special that I was fortunate to see the last 20 years or so. He knew what I needed with medication and advice. I know he was a big part of many lives and the close connection he had with his great staff. My heart goes out to him, his family and all those that knew him. My good bless Dr. Friedman forever.
very little I can add to all of the glowing tributes from others, bottom line , he made my spouse feel comfortable about going to the Doctor’s, something no other Doctor was EVER able to do. Like with so many others , I felt he was a FRIEND , that being the greatest tribute I can pay him. R I P Dr. Friedman , you were the very definition of the word ” special”.
I am deeply heartbroken and sadden about the passing of Dr. Friedman. He was not only a great physician to me for many years but a kind compassionate friend. Thank you Dr. Friedman for all you did for many of us who were soo blessed to have you as our Physician but most of all as a friend. My deepest condolences to your beloved family and your dedicated staff, Wendy and Christine. You will be missed but always remembered. God Blessings and RIP in Heaven Dr.. Friedman
We started going to Dr Friedman when we first moved to Dix Hills. He took such good care of me, and my children. Truly can’t believe that he has passed. May his memory be for a blessing.
I am totally devastated learning if Dr Friedman’s passing. I met Arthur 31 years ago, new to Commack, when my then 2 year old daughter cut her leg and required stitches. Her pediatrician was closed and I didn’t want to go to the ER. a neighbor told be of Dr Friedman. Upon meeting him I knew he would be my forever doctor. Since that day he became my primary doctor. His compassion, sincerity and talent as a doctor was extraordinary. Over the years we became friends and each visit included updating family news. I always felt confident with his diagnosis and treatment. He was a true mench and will be missed tremendously! My heart goes out to his family and friends as well as his dedicated staff Wendy and Chris. Rest In Peace and you will always be in my heart.
Very sad to hear about our “Commack Doctor”. He took very good care of all his patience. No matter what was wrong with you, he was there. The blood pressure medicine he gave me I still use today. His office was always crowded and most time you would see someone you knew in the waiting room. He was definitely our Commack Doctor. My best to your family and he will never be replaced in Commack.
The loss of Arthur Friedman leaves a void that will never be filled. My family, especially me started seeing him more than 30 years ago. He was not only our doctor, but our friend, confidant, and strength in good times and bad. He was always there for us and we will miss him deeply. I am still in shock and expect to see him in his office like always taking care of everyone. We always told each other that we loved each other. I am so devastated by this loss. I hope his family knows how much he was loved, because his patients certainly did. We miss him and will always have a place in out hearts for him.

RIP Arthur. You were my physician, client, and friend for almost 30 years. We shared our passion for the 2nd Amendment and many other interests. May your memory be eternal.
A loss of words, shock and disbelief…. I loved Dr.Friedman. Dr. Friedman was my only doctor. He was such an inspiration to all those who knew him. Throughout the years, as my parents fell ill, my father was diagnosed with cancer. I would call and discuss his findings and Dr. Friedman gave us such direction and confirmation with his as expertise. I felt so lucky to have him in our lives. He was my friend and believed in me. He hugged me when I would come to the office… Shared his life’s moments good and bad. Was a pillar when my father passed, as he knew him deeply for years. Dr. Friedman always had such a kind, genuine showing for your concerns, as if you were, his family. He would make me laugh, shared tears, shared our experiences about life. There is no other doctor I have ever met who was so real and made you feel like you weren’t a patient, you were his friend and he was helping you. I’m so sorry to all those who grieve this great loss. My condolences to his family, friends, staff and many many healthline family. Our hearts are shattered as we grieve with you. May the Lord bring you comfort in this great time of loss. Dr. Friedman you were loved by many and will be missed deeply in so many of our lives. May you rest in the Lord’s eternal love till meet again.
My parents brought me to see Dr Friedman on the recommendation of my aunt and uncle. He has been my family’s doctor since I was in middle school. He has been a major part of my family’s lives. I found out Dr Friedman was in the hospital on May 4th and he passed the next day. He was an amazing man and no one will ever fill his shoes. RIP Dr Friedman we love you
My mom and I only heard the news today, a week after the funeral, otherwise we’d have said something sooner. Arthur was my parents’ GP for close to 30 years, and mine intermittently. He was a fabulous doctor, caring and considerate and kind. My late dad adored him, and my poor mom is gutted. Our condolences to the family. This is a tragic loss. Rest in peace, Dr Friedman. I hope my Dad met you at the gates of the afterlife to talk your ear off.
