Celebrating the Life of Sheldon Wagner
September 2, 1934-November 13, 2023
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sheldon (aka Shel/Shelly) Wagner, which occurred on November 13, 2023. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Sheldon died peacefully at home in Melville, NY after 89 loving and spirited years. He was married for 35 years to Joan, the love of his life and partner in marriage who preceded him in death in 2001. He is survived by his three children, Tracy, Mark and Todd and their spouses, Jordan, Laura and Jill. Sheldon was affectionately known as Pop Pop by his eight grandchildren, Jade, Alexis, Deryn, Morgan, Emily, Riley, Michael and Kasey. He also is survived by his sisters, Joyce and Barbara; and was predeceased by his sister Elaine.
Sheldon was an active bowler and softball player until recently, and his strong affection for the Mets was passed on to his children. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, loved a great happy hour and always wanted to host everyone at his home. He was a friend to anyone who knew him and was always thinking of other peoples’ needs before his own. Sheldon was particularly proud of his grandchildren and all their accomplishments and would brag about them to anyone who would listen.
Please join us to celebrate him on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 6:00-9:00 pm. There also will be a pre-burial service to be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 9:45 am. These will be held at Star of David Memorial Chapels, located at 1236 Wellwood Ave., West Babylon, NY 11704. The burial will take place immediately following the Friday morning service at Pinelawn Memorial Park & Arboretum, located at 2030 Wellwood Ave Farmingdale, NY 11735.
